On the week-end of March 21/04 we headed to Camp Carter to do a Spring Cleaning camp and spent our first week-end in the "Headquarters building". The first thing we had to do when we got there Friday evening was to shovelled a path into the building. There was still over 4 feet of snow on the ground in front of the doorway. After we unpacked our gear and got a fire going in the wood stove,we headed down to the driveway for the MacLean buidling where we shovel enough to get the truck into the driveway. Jeff had a slight disagreement with the tailboard of the truck and came out on the worse side of the deal. The rest of the night we spent hanging around watching a movie and crashed around midnight.
After breakfast the next morning we set about cleaning up the two buildings. Chris and Grant swept, vacuumed and washed the floors, walls and ceilings upstair in the Headquarter building while John, Jeff and Jay did the same at the Maclean building. Leaders Gerald and Ron cleaned the cupboards, dishes and downstairs. After lunch we spent a couple of hours cutting up some old spruce for the wood stove to replenish the supply in the wood bin. When this was done we hiked through the snow up along the brook and quite a piece apast the waterfalls. We took the Frs radios with us but they didn't work to good because we were in a ravine both of the time. Just before supper we arrived back wet, tired and cold but in good spirits. After supper we snowshoed for a while and hiked around the upper part of the camp we found a pond to play an old fashion game of hockey using parts of an old duck decoy we found for a puck. The rest of the evening we chilled out playing some board games and munching out on the treats we took. The next morning we slept in a bit and after breakfast we cleaned up a little bit more before leaving around noon.
