The Duke of Edinburgh Awards Programme is
an indivdual challenge involving four different areas of endeavor: service, outdoor expedition/exploration, skills and physical fitness. Each participant is required to take part in all sections and show effort and improvement in each, in order to qualify for an Award at the Bronze, Silver or Gold Level.
The Duke of Edinburgh award programme was initiated in the UK in 1956, introduced into Canada in 1963 and established in Nova Scotia in 1972
