On the weekend of Oct. 2 our Venturer Company participated in the Regional Canoe Camp at Hidden Treasure Campground in Catalone. We arrived Friday evening and set up our tents and gear.
On Saturday Morning we attended the opening horseshoe and then help set up the Regional Marquee Tent. For the rest of the day we attended sessions on Compass and GPS, portage and packing of canoes, campsite selection and Emergency Procedures. We all had a changce to take the canoes out on the lake in the afternoon.
After supper our Venturer Company set up the wood for the Campfire. Chris was campfire chief and we had Jeff, Jay, Josh and Grant come in from the North, East, South and West with Cattail torches to light our Campfire
After the campfire our venturer Company hosted a social for all the other groups. We served pop, chips and doughnut and set up the Ga-Ga Stand in the lighted Marquee tent.
The weather was chilly on the weekend and both mornings when we woke up there was frost on the inside and outside of our tents and there was frozen dew on our picnic table and cooking gear.
Overall it was a good weekend with youth from Glace Bay, Dingwall, Neils Harbour, Sydney, North Sydney and Whycocomagh atttending.
